Gravure cylinder polishing stones

Abramax (ABR) Copper polishing stones

This ia a white, lightweight stone used on copper cylinders for the rapid removal of copper. It is available in 120, 150 and 180 grit (approx weight 1.5kg).

Fast running, high-capacity gravure presses place special demands on the printing cylinder.

In order to take full advantage of the possibilites of the printing presses considerable advancements have been made recently in engraving and electroplating.

With today's wide range of substrates and inks, extreme demands are placed in the image carrier's finish. Customers require consistant, predictable stock removal rates and finishes and this is where
we can help.

The polishing stones that we sell are engineered to meet or exceed customer's expectations.

PVA Copper polishing stones
This grey PVA polishing stone is stocked in 280, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit (approx weight 1.5kg). They have the same definition as the ABR stones.

Steel polishing stones
The steel polishing stone is white in colour and is of heavy density, with an approximate weight of 4.2kg. It is stocked in 280 grit and
400 grit.

The preparation of the steel impression cylinder is of considerable importance

Our stones are designed to remove grinding patterns and deep scratches. Optimal grain distribution in a tough foamed grinding stone provides for quick stock removal with consistant finish.

The steel stones we supply should be operated at 20-30% less rpm than the copper stones. This allows the steel stone to grind evenly without the need to dress or clean the stone.

Chrome polishing stones
Chrome-plating creats hydrogen blisters on all conrners from cell walls to the cylinder radius. These microscopic burrs must be removed before the cylinder can be installed in the press.

The chrome must also be polished to a certain roughness to aid with the doctor blade lubrication.

The use of single layer abrasives by hand can be very time consuming and inconsistent.

Today a more economical method is to use the Chromstar Stone.

Attachment of stones to grinding plates
We recommend that the polishing is attached to the grinding plate with a hot metal adhesive - 1kg of adhesive is sufficient to stick approx 30 stones into place.
